Japanese Level 1 provides beginners a solid introduction to the language, equivalent to the 1st-Year curriculum in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Indiana University.
Students who complete the course successfully will reach a proficiency of Intermediate Low or better. They will be able to communicate in day-to-day situations, will be able to read and write effectively on familiar topics, and will have a solid foundation for further study or travel.
The program introduces Japanese culture through authentic materials and media, as well as real-life activities and structured interactions with speakers of Japanese.
Japanese Level 2 is designed for students who have elementary proficiency in the language and want to develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. It is equivalent to the 2nd-Year curriculum in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Indiana University.
Students who complete the course successfully will reach a proficiency of Intermediate Mid or better. They will be able to function effectively in a Japanese-speaking environment; will be able to understand and work with authentic materials, including news, videos, podcasts, chats, stories, articles on familiar topics, etc.; and will have a solid foundation for travel or advanced study.

Japanese Level 3 is designed for students who have intermediate proficiency in the language and want to develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. It is equivalent to the 3rd-Year curriculum in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Indiana University.
This course is designed for students with Intermediate Mid proficiency who want to develop more advanced speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Students who complete the course successfully will reach Intermediate High proficiency.
Working with authentic materials showcasing Japanese culture, students will improve their mastery of the linguistic and cultural skills they need in order to function effectively in a Japanese-speaking environment. They will be able to understand news, videos, podcasts, chats, stories, literature etc. with ease, and to interact confidently with native speakers in a wide range of contexts.
