2025 Scholarship & Fellowship Recipients
Founded with an award from the Indiana University Women's Philanthropy Leadership Council in 2018, the Women Engaging Globally Scholarship funds undergraduate women who attend the Language Workshop in preparation for an international career. Here are the 2025 Women Engaging Globally Scholars.
Xinrui Xie is a graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in Japanese Buddhism. Having studied in the United Kingdom and the United States, she brings a cross-cultural perspective to her research on Buddhist literature, book history, and intellectual exchange. Ultimately, she aspires to foster global engagement and strengthen academic connections between the East and the West as a professor of East Asian Languages and Civilizations. She studied Japanese 2 with her Women Engaging Globally Scholarship.

Clara Biela is an International Relations Major at Cornell College with a passion for languages. A student of both Russian and Spanish, she is preparing for a career in international diplomacy and security. She studied Russian 1 with her Women Engaging Globally Scholarship.

Kristie Moore is an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley studying Global Studies with a concentration in Peace & Conflict studies. She studied Azerbaijani 1 with her Women Engaging Globally Scholarship, in preparation for a career in mass atrocity prevention.
Administered by the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research, the Title VIII program promotes regional expertise at the national level by funding graduate students to study the languages of Eastern Europe and the states of the former Soviet Union. The 2025 Title VIII Fellows were:

Foreign Language and Area Studies Awards are funded by the United States Department of Education in support of students studying less commonly taught languages, in particular, those considered to be of critical interest to the United States. FLAS Awards promote the training of students who plan to make their careers in fields where knowledge of foreign languages and cultures is a prerequisite to success.
