2024 Scholarship & Fellowship Recipients
Mather Davidson is a Government and Middle East Studies major at Smith College. Her interests include international diplomacy, security policy, and conflict resolution. Additionally, she is a member of Smith's Varsity Soccer team and a volunteer English teacher for refugees.
Sinclair Bagwell is a Chinese and East Asian Studies major at Arizona State University. A Chinese Flagship student, she has studied in Taiwan and plans to return for for extended study as part of her Capstone Year. Clair’s career goal is to become a Foreign Service Officer, focusing on facilitating smoother transactions and providing cultural and linguistic support.
Administered by the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research, the Title VIII program promotes regional expertise at the national level by funding graduate students to study the languages of Eastern Europe and the states of the former Soviet Union.

Foreign Language and Area Studies Awards are funded by the United States Department of Education in support of students studying less commonly taught languages, in particular, those considered to be of critical interest to the United States. FLAS Awards promote the training of students who plan to make their careers in fields where knowledge of foreign languages and cultures is a prerequisite to success.
