Director
Kathleen Evans oversees the Language Workshop and its subsidiary programs: the Language Training Center, the Summer Language Workshops, the Indianapolis Summer Language Camps, and other externally funded language- and culture initiatives. Kathleen holds a PhD in linguistics from the University of Michigan and has over two decades of experience in intensive language and overseas training programs.
Jenny McDougall
Associate Director
Jenny is the Associate Director for the Language Workshop and manages day-to-day functions. She also acts as the outreach coordinator for the Title VIII Fellowship and Project GO Scholarship. She graduated from IU with a B.A. in East Asian Languages and Cultures and a minor in Communication and Culture in 2012. She furthered her studies in Japanese at Nanzan University from 2012-2013 before joining the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program in 2015 and taught English in Japan until 2022. She returned to IU to pursue an M.S.Ed in Literacy, Culture, and Language Education and worked at the IU Office of International Services before joining the IU Language Workshop.
Curriculum and Educational Technology Director
Franzi provides academic leadership to the Language Workshop's multicultural team of over 50 instructors from more than 25 countries. Within the Language Workshop, she is involved in the recruitment of teaching staff and faculty and responsible for defining the educational standards across our diverse offerings. She oversees quality assurance processes and ensures the implementation of innovative teaching approaches and the digital transformation of our courses. Her responsibilities also include strategic curriculum development, didactic evaluation, the introduction of modern learning formats such as project-based and active learning, and the targeted integration of digital media and AI into daily instruction.
