Learn the Language with IU then Study Abroad with PITT!

Students of BCMS, Czech, and Polish can combine 8 weeks of intensive online language study provided by Indiana University with an optional 4-week culture and language program provided by the University of Pittsburgh in Cetinje, Prague, or Krakow.

Learn the Language with IU

The Indiana University Online Workshop provides 8 weeks of accelerated, online study to help you develop speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills quickly. You will complete 1 full year of language training in only 2 months in real-time classes conducted in the language of study, emphasizing the development of real-time interpersonal communication skills, and preparing you to study abroad with confidence at the end the program.

In the Online Workshop you will study 17-20 hours per week in live online classes with an instructor and with other students. After class you will complete 3-4 hours of independent study to prepare for the next day’s class. You can also take part in interactive, real-time cultural activities with visiting scholars, performers, and practitioners.

As an Online Workshop participant, you will be part of a diverse group of talented language learners, including advanced high-school students, undergraduates, graduate students, scholars, professionals, and others. People join the Online Workshop for a range of academic, professional, and personal reasons, but they are united in their strong interest in learning the language.

The small class sizes, expert instructors, and highly motivated students of the Online Language Workshop provide a stimulating setting for you to develop your oral and written communication skills rapidly.

Study Abroad with PITT

IU Online Workshop students qualify for priority admission to the 4-week study-abroad programs of the University of Pittsburgh's Summer Language Institute.

Indiana and Pittsburgh have align their schedules and curricula to ensure that Online Workshop students enter the study-abroad program with the same language proficiency as other participants.
