You must be at last 18 years old on the first day of class to attend an immersion or study-abroad course.
If you do not meet the age requirement, then you are not eligible to apply for the Workshop.

Are you an undergraduate student in the IU Kelly School of Business or will you be enrolling in the Kelly School in the fall of 2023? If YES, your application will include the CIBER Scholarship application.
Are you a graduate student or a scholar or researcher applying to study advanced Russian (years 3-6) or to study a language of Eastern Europe or Central Asia? If YES (and if U.S. citizen), your application will include the TITLE VIII Fellowship application.
Are you a high-school student or graduating high-school senior applying to study Arabic? If YES, then your application will include the QATAR FOUNDATION INTERNATIONAL Scholarship application.
Citizenship Must be "U.S." for some scholarships.
Gender If not MALE, then your application will include the WOMEN ENGAGING GLOBALLY Scholarship application.

PERSONAL STATEMENT
Workshop courses have limited enrollment and students are admitted on a competitive basis. Admissions committees rely heavily on the Personal Statement in making admission decisions.
Your statement of 4500 characters or less (roughly 750 words) should address the question:
"What are your academic, professional, or personal goals, and how will studying {your course} in the Language Workshop contribute to them?"
Provide any additional information that is relevant to your application. For example, explanations of gaps in education or employment, changes in academic status that will go into effect between now and June 2024, descriptions of special training or skills, notes on special needs, etc.
All students, including IU students, are required to provide transcripts. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable

If you are a graduate student or researcher in Russian, East European, and Eurasian studies, you may be eligible for a Title VIII Fellowship.
The Title VIII Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union -- administered by the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research -- funds language study and research related to Eastern Europe and the countries of the former Soviet Union to ensure that timely, independent, analysis is available to inform foreign policy decisions.
Indiana University Title VIII awards cover up to full tuition and fees, living stipends, and study-abroad fees (where applicable) for graduate students, researchers, and scholars studying in Language Workshop programs online, in person, or one of the Workshop's overseas programs.
To apply for a Title VIII Fellowship, you must be a U.S. Citizen and must be either a graduate student enrolled in a degree program for a language or region relevant to the Title VIII mission, or a rising graduate student (accepted to a graduate program and beginning graduate study in Fall 2023) or a researcher, scholar, or postdoctoral student employed in a scholarly function in a university, think tank, or similar studying a language or region relevant to the Title VIII mission.
Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis. Priority goes to applicants who will further the program's mission to develop and maintain high-quality research and training programs critical to the national security of the United States and to support and sustain American expertise in the countries of Eastern Europe and the independent states of the former Soviet Union.

The Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies provides funding for the study of Estonian, Latvian, or Lithuanian by any participant at any level. Preference goes to applicants planning to enter the field of Baltic Studies or to engage in related careers.

APPLICATION FOR A WOMEN ENGAGING GLOBALLY SCHOLARSHIP
With generous support from the Hamilton Lugar School of International and Global Studies, the Language Workshop provide a limited number of Women Engaging Globally Scholarships for outstanding female undergraduates who are embarking on international careers.
Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. Priority goes to applicants who are actively working toward international careers whose future careers require proficiency in a foreign language.

APPLICATION FOR A QATAR FOUNDATION INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP With generous support from the Qatar Foundation International, this scholarship funds the study of Arabic by high-school students and high-school seniors who graduate in spring/summer 2024.
QFI Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. Priority goes to applicants whose academic or career plans involve a need for Arabic proficiency. Preference goes to current or future Arabic Flagship students; current or future Arabic majors and minors; and students planning careers associated with the Arab world.

APPLICATION FOR CIBER SCHOLARSHIP
Created under the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988 to increase and promote the nation's capacity for international understanding and economic enterprise, the nation's CIBERs -- Centers for International Business Education and Research -- link the manpower and information needs of U.S. business with the international education, language training, and research capacities of U.S. universities.
The IU CIBER helps U.S. businesses meet the challenges of today's global economy by:
Providing connections to critical global market resources
Supporting professional development programs on important international business issues
Strengthening students’ understanding of business in a global context
Promoting the study of foreign languages
Indiana University CIBER scholarships provide up to $2,500 for Kelly School of Business students participating in online or in-person programs of the IU Language Workshop.
To apply for an IU CIBER award, you must be
a U.S. Citizen
enrolled in the IU Kelly School of Business, or beginning a degree program in the Kelly School of Business in the autumn following your Language Workshop summer.
Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. Priority goes to applicants whose career goals most closely align with the CIBER mission.
CIBER applicants may apply for and receive other Workshop scholarships, provided the combined worth of their awards does not exceed the cost of attendance of their Language Workshop program and earmarked funds do not exceed the cost of the program component for which they are intended. (For example, if you win two awards that provide tuition, you will be able to accept the tuition component of only one of them.)

Funded with generous support from the Hamilton Lugar School of International and Global Studies at Indiana University and through the donations of alumni and supporters of the Language Workshop, HLS scholarships fund Workshop participants who have not applied for other Workshop funding.
HLS Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. Priority goes to applicants who demonstrate a clear academic or career-related need for the language they are studying, a clear plan for continuing study in the future, and a clear plan for achieving their academic or career plans.

FLAS: FOREIGN LANGUAGE AND AREA STUDIES AWARDS
As a Language Workshop applicant, you may be eligible for FLAS funding. The Language Workshop does not administer FLAS, so you will need to apply directly to one of Indiana's FLAS Centers. Learn about IU FLAS Awards at the IU FLAS Central page.
