Twalha Abbass is a doctoral student in Folklore at Indiana University, where he also earned his M.A. in African Studies. He first taught Swahili at IU as a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant in 2019–2020 and continued teaching the language through the summer of 2025. Twalha looks forward to returning to the Summer Language Workshop, and especially enjoys helping students connect language learning with the cultural perspectives and everyday stories of East Africa. His academic work focuses on Tanzanian folkways, which he integrates into his teaching to create an engaging, culturally grounded approach to Swahili instruction.
