Pouyan Shahidi is a doctoral candidate in Indiana University (IU) Bloomington in the departments of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures, and History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine. He received his M.A. degrees from the University of Tehran (Iran) and Indiana University in history of medieval astronomy, history and philosophy of science, and in Middle Eastern languages and cultures. Since 2013, Pouyan has taught Persian courses from the elementary to the advance level in McGill (Montreal, Canada), and Indiana universities. Pouyan is a native speaker of Persian and an avid reader of modern and medieval Persian literature as well as Middle-Persian texts of the late antiquity both for his research and personal leisure. As a historian of science, Pouyan's doctoral research focuses on the interdisciplinary interactions between natural philosophy and mathematical astronomy in the works of Ibn Sīnā (Avicenna). In both his research and teaching, Pouyan is interested in digital humanities approaches, and has worked as a senior digital methods specialist and fellow in the Institute for Digital Arts and Humanities at IU from 2021 to 2024.
