Mengjie Lei is a third-year Ph.D. student in Literacy, Culture, and Language Education in the School of Education and a first-year Master’s student in Chinese Pedagogy in the East Asian Language and Culture Department at Indiana University. Her research interests focus on language ideology and language identity, especially regarding Chinese heritage speakers' language identity in relation to their language classroom experiences.
Before joining Indiana University, Mengjie taught Chinese at Macalester College, Peking University, and the Princeton in Beijing summer workshop. She taught at Indiana University's summer language workshop in 2024 and is excited to return for summer 2025. Outside of her academic work, she enjoys painting, watching movies, exploring museums, and discovering the best coffee spots in town.
