Dmitry Romashov

Dmitry studied Jewish Studies and Middle Eastern Studies at the Moscow State University, as well as at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Early in his college years, he realized that teaching was his calling, inspiring him to add pedagogy to his course of study. Prior to Indiana University, he worked at the Saint-Petersburg State University (Russia) and for the Institute for Jewish Studies of St. Petersburg, teaching Hebrew and Jewish History. At the same time, he was actively involved in Jewish Education in Russia working as an educator and academic supervisor. He has been working at IU since 2015. For the last ten years, his primary focus has been on developing and perfecting his skills as a language instructor. In his teaching, he aims to create a student-centered learning environment through authentic content and immersion with a strong emphasis on developing communication skills. He gives special attention to cognitive processes and best practices that support student language acquisition. His teaching philosophy centers around immersion learning and the teaching in the target language approach.
