XUSH KELIBSIZ!
Part of the Workshop for over three decades, the accelerated, proficiency-based Uzbek program was developed in collaboration with the Department of Central Eurasian Studies at Indiana University. The program combines formal classroom instruction and extracurricular activities to increase both the linguistic competence and the cultural literacy of participants. The program is based on the use of authentic materials, including the live participation of faculty and facilitators from Uzbekistan.
Uzbek Level 1 provides beginners a solid introduction to the language, equivalent to the 1st-Year curriculum in the Department of Central Eurasian Studies at Indiana University.
Students who complete the course successfully will reach a proficiency of Intermediate Low or better. They will be able to communicate in day-to-day situations, will be able to read and write effectively on familiar topics, and will have a solid foundation for further study or travel.
The first, online, half of the program introduces Uzkeb culture through authentic materials and media, as well as through structured interactions with staff and faculty from the overseas program.
The second, online, half of the program immerses students in Uzbek culture with guided extramural activities, excursions, and host-family living, while deepening student mastery of the language through daily intensive classroom instruction.
