Participants in Pashto Level 1 learn to understand and speak Pashto at the Intermediate Low level. Participants who complete the course successfully will be able to navigate in an Pashto-speaking environment, engage comfortably in day-to-day exchanges, and participate in simple social exchanges in Pashto. They will have a solid foundation for further study or for interacting effectively in a Pashto-speaking community.
Participants study 4 hours a day (3 hours of independent study using exercises on Canvas and 1 hour of face-to-face discussion via ZOOM). Once a week, there is also an additional conversation hour face-to-face via ZOOM meeting. This course is offered online only and will not meet on the Bloomington campus.
Each participant enrolled in the course must have access to: a computer, webcam, headset, scanner or smartphone with ability to take photos to submit assignments, ZOOM, and VoiceThread.
Students who fulfill the course requirements will complete the equivalent of the 1st-Year Pashto curriculum in the Department of Central Eurasian Languages at Indiana University and will have a solid foundation for travel or advanced study.
