This intensive program is for students who have elementary proficiency in Indonesian and want to develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Students who complete the course successfully complete the equivalent of the 2nd-Year curriculum at Indiana University and will reach a proficiency of Intermediate Mid or better. They will able to function effectively in a Indonesian-speaking environment; will be able to understand and work with authentic materials, including news, videos, podcasts, chats, stories, articles on familiar topics, etc.; and will have a solid foundation for travel or advanced study. The program develops familiarity with Indonesian culture through work with authentic materials and media, as well as Indonesian and structured interactions with Indonesian speakers.
The program is open to all, including
- IU and non-IU students
- graduate and undergraduate students
- high-school students over age 16
This is a level 2 course. Prior experience is required, specifically
- Successful completion of 1st-Year Indonesian at Indiana University within last 24 months, OR
- Successful completion of placement exam (administered after admission but before payment of fees).
For students just beginning their study of Indonesian, Indiana University offers elementary courses through its Southeast Asian Studies Department.
HOUSING AND MEALS
Housing in Willkie Center is included in your Workshop fee. You will stay in an air-conditioned single room, sharing a lounge with other students of your language.
Summer dining options are limited. We recommend that you cook in the Willkie Hall kitchen or eat in local eateries.
