This intensive online program is for students who have elementary proficiency in Dutch and want to develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Students who complete the course successfully complete the equivalent of the 2nd-Year curriculum at Indiana University and will reach a proficiency of Intermediate Mid or better. They will able to function effectively in a Dutch-speaking environment; will be able to understand and work with authentic materials, including news, videos, podcasts, chats, stories, articles on familiar topics, etc.; and will have a solid foundation for travel or advanced study. The program develops familiarity with Dutch culture through work with authentic materials and media, as well as structured online interactions with Dutch speakers.
This is an intensive, accelerated course. It combines two real-time online meetings a day with the instructor with 3-4 hours a day of online training and activities. To succeed in this course, you must be able to attend both the morning and afternoon sessions every weekday and to devote 4 hours of study between those meetings. Please be sure you can set aside uninterrupted time and that you have reliable internet access and a quiet space in which to work before you apply for this course.
Each participant enrolled in the course must have access to: a computer, webcam, headset, scanner or smartphone with ability to take photos to submit assignments, ZOOM, and VoiceThread.
This course is offered online only and will not meet on the Bloomington campus.
